For over two decades, hunters have participated in the Los Cazadores Deer Contest. Los Cazadores is now the largest trophy whitetail deer hunting contest in the country. Los Cazadores, which is Spanish for "The Hunters", records the scores for a variety of categories throughout the hunting season. Most of the trophy deer that are entered in the contest come from South Texas deer hunting outfitters and a few locations in northern Mexico; however, any whitetail that is harvested in the state of Texas is eligible.
Many of the guests from the Wilson Whitetail Ranch & Shooting Preserve deer hunting trips have entered their trophy whitetails in the contest. Once a hunter harvests an eligible entry, he or she must take the deer to contest headquarters in Pearsall or Brady, Texas, where the deer is weighed, measured and scored. Once the hunting season is concluded, the hunters that have brought in the best trophies are declared the winners of their respective category.
Wilson Whitetail Ranch & Shooting Preserve (WWR) clients consistently rank at the top of several categories of the Los Cazadores Deer Contest. In 2007, WWR had more entries with a score of 160"+ than any of the other Texas deer hunting outfitters. In addition to the number of entries, WWR clients took home first place for the biggest 9 point trophy, first place for the most points, and third place for the heaviest mass. This can also be attributed to the record setting season that WWR had in 2007. WWR had over 14 whitetail bucks scoring over 160". The previous ranch record of 184" was also shattered by an astounding 227" whitetail, with another trophy scoring 195", and an additional 2 whitetails scoring over 200". WWR has certainly established itself as a premier location for trophy whitetail deer hunting. This is why we stand out above other Texas hunting ranches!
